I am truly enjoying this monday morning of REST. and i'm amazed that i'm not sore and not tired. but it is incredible what your body adapts to, how it gets used to the exercise. you really begin to see with ironman training that your body IS a machine, and that you are capable of things that you never thought possible.

this saturday, i left the house at 6:20am on the bike. rode to wyckoff for a steady/fast group ride around the tri course, got a good paceline with rob/tim/george going and that was a ton of fun. then rob and i broke off to head to the cyclesport ride, and rode steady/strong right near the front. At the end of that we had gone nearly 60 miles averaging 20.3 thanks to the group rides.
then the fun started as we headed up to harriman, and climbed 5 mountains heading west... gate hill, 106 out of harriman, sterling forest and mt peter on 17A, and then up warwick tpk toward upper greenwood lake. we ripped down clinton ave and dropped back through west milford to get home, finishing with ... 122 miles!! 7 hours of riding, 17.3 avg, and i felt strong and good the whole time.

so then yesterday i had the long run. i wasn't sure what to expect. christine and i decided to RUN the wyckoff BIKE course... 17 miles, i know the route, wouldn't have to "think" too much... just keep going. i felt really good for about 14 miles... going up colonial was tough, and the last few miles i slowed way down, but i made it in 2:51. that was my longest run in a long long long time.

nutrition worked well on both workouts. we decided to run a little later to "test the heat" and started about 11:30am. i'm learning to stay away from gatorade on the run, and that i like the endurolytes. and Gu is my best friend. gu, powerbars, and some perpetuem (not mixed very thick) on the bike were good.

this was a long crazy weekend. next weekend we'll be up in lake placid... riding the whole course saturday, and running the lake placid half marathon sunday. a few swims sprinkled in. then will take a recovery week leading into wyckoff tri.

i'm excited looking forward to ironman. i'm hoping for good weather and for a great race performance. and it's sad to know that in a few short weeks it will all be over. i see why it's so addictive because it is so cool to attain this level of fitness.

but it will be nice to get some "life" back too.. :)

happy training!
