Mark Dabrowski

IMLP training the 2nd Time Around, not quite as planned.

What a difference a year makes.

Last year I barely missed a workout, was ready for the taper and knew I had prepared to the best of my ability. The race was uneventful (sans the rain) and I finished almost exactly where my training paces dictated, 12:28.

This year I have been hampered by an inflammed achilles since late April. My running has been off and on, and almost always uncomfortable. It wasn't so much the running (though slower) as it was the recovery. I just haven't been able to put in consistent miles. Up until this week, I was really nervous about the marathon. Fortunately, with the help of my ART doctor I was able to complete 3 runs this week finishing with a 14 mile run yesterday. Short as it may be, it was a huge confidence builder.

I've done all that I could or that my body would allow. My swim and bike have gone exactly according to the plan and I'll have to take what the race gives me on the run. I had wanted to "race" it this year but unless a miracle happens that is not likely. My goals have been adjusted accordingly.

I'm thankful that I've enjoyed the journey (mostly), I'm happy just to be getting to the line reltively healthy and I'll enjoy the IM experience with my family (including my 78 yr old mom this time who has been going to LP for 40+ years!).

All that's left to do is race!
