Is it just me or does it seem that NBC is missing the ethos of IM? For the record I really like Al Trautwig and it goes without saying that the camera crews do a tremendous job. It seems pretty well conveyed that Kona is a world championship for professionals, but for amateurs, the vast majority, the coverage suggests like all you need is a great story or tragedy to secure your race spot. No kidding, in the interest of racing well at Eagleman 2008 I picked up, and just finished, James Michener's book "Chesapeake" (linked below), which is a saga of life along the Choptank River. At 1001 pages it's a tome, but a very good one. Took me a long time to get through it, reading a few dozen pages each morning over coffee. Michener also wrote another epic book called "Hawaii" ...I hear there's a good race over there, too.

And four weeks between Columbia and Eagleman is awesome...I the way the days/dates line up is beneficial this year. We'll take it either way!
