Did I blow up?

Mike

I finished my first Ironman yesterday. Day went extremely well for the most part. Looking back, I'm curious about something. I'm going to give you a summary of the day and my prior training and then ask a question at the end. The first 13 miles, I felt like a rock star and thought i was holding a pace I could carry to the end. From mile 13 and beyond on the run, I struggled. Doug,
I don't have any "magic bullet" advice that would get you cranking in any faster than you did last weekend, but I will tell you that after only three years of triathlon training/racing experience, carrying 190lbs, and going through your first IM experience, that your report was encouraging. The comment about your muscles/infrastructure indicates that additional running experience over time should yield even better results - it's just a matter of laying out your 2-3 year plan and watching your progress over time. Improvement is inevitable for you if you can remain consistent and dedicated to your journey.

As for the coke, it's generally a combination caffeine/sugar boost, lasts a few minutes, and then you have to hit it again. Not something to experiment with on race day!

Again, good job at IM-Moo!
