Last year I used the Ultra Distance Training plan with great success for my first IM. I also took over 30 minutes off my best time at the Half IM distance along the way.

This year I completed a Half IM in early May and settled for a slower time because of a tweaked hamstring suffered the Wednesday before the race. I was in great shape, but the hammy popped when I started the run and I had to drag a dead leg around the course.

My next A race is 9-27 at the Augusta 70.3. I am about 16 weeks out. I am overcoming a freak back injury from playing in the ocean with my daughter (apparently I am a little older and she is a little heavier!). But, I should be ready for getting back to it Friday. I plan a controlled swim on Friday, a bike on Saturday that I can adjust to whatever distance feels good, and an easy run on Sunday.

Now the big question. If I am doing a Half IM, do I double up your International Distance plan or cut in half your Ultra Distance plan? Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear about your back (are you seeing anyone who uses ART for muscle injuries?)...for the Half IM distance, I would recommend following the Ultra Distance plan during the weekdays & the International Distance plan during the weeks.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks!

What is ART?

Where should I jump into the plan?

http://activerelease.com/ - look under "Find a Provider" on the left.

As for where to jump in, just count back the number of weeks from your key race & go from there...should work just fine.

Take care,
Mike
