Hi everyone! I am currently training for IMMOO 2009, using the 36 week plan. My question is : Has anybody used this plan to do IMMOO, and if so, do you feel there was enough cycling in the plan to prepare you for the hills of Wisconsin? Thanks and have a great day. -Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm not familiar with the amount of hills at IMMOO, but I have done Canada Ironman 4 times in the last 20 years which has a few hills in it and have been in the 11 hour range. My training wasn't very systematic for those 4 events. Now I'm making a comeback and plan to do Canada again in 2010 and am going through the 36 week plan to try it out. I'm into week 20 and am really enjoying the structure and progression. I must say I certainly never did anywhere near as much riding in prep for my previous races as I've done to date in the program. I'm quite confident that you will be well prepared for any ironman race regardless of terrain if you follow the program carefully. My watts for the same heartrate have gone up by 50 over the course of the 20 weeks. Just do some of the core cycling workouts on terrain similar to your race if you can. If not, not to worry, 75% is 75%. I will do all training for Canada Ironman in Edmonton, Alberta which is mostly Canadian Prairie flatland, though we do have a nice river valley that I can do some repeats on. Enjoy comparing notes on the program. Let me know your progress.

Mark,

Thanks for your input. This will be my first IM and I just want to make sure I am well prepared. I am into week 10, and I can already see big improvements in my swim and run times ( thanks Mike). I have been riding on Computrainer this winter and can't wait to get back outside to see if I've improved on the bike. It's pretty flat here in northeastern Indiana, so I'll have to about 3 hrs south to find some good hills. Once again thanks for your help. Have a great day. -Mark

Mark,

I did this plan for the first time in 2008, and IMOO 2008 was my first IM ever. I felt very confident doing the hills in Wisconsin--the plan got me to the finish in good shape, and the run was fun. I'm doing the plan again and will do IMOO again this year. See you there.

Dave
