I am bummed that I can't go to that swim...I have a baby shower to go to that day a 1pm.

Sounds fun and it'll be good practice for IMFL! I was supposed to be doing the Mooseman Half that day but I just cancelled due to a torn calf muscle, so I should be available that morning. I actually did a race in the Navesink when I was 13 or 14. I believe it was the Geraldo Rivera/Two River Times swim but I don't think that race has been around for a long time...

Hey everyone. There is a good open water swim coming up in Rumson, NJ on June 7th. It's in a bay, so you don't have to worry about the cold ocean temps. I've done it the past two years and the water is typically in the mid-60s. I never wore a wetsuit for it and was perfectly fine the whole race. They have a 1.2 mile loop and you can opt to do one or two loops. Many people bring their bikes and do a ride or run directly after getting out of the water (not part of the event). It's called the NAV-E-SINK or Swim and the info is posted on the Sandy Hookers Triathlon Club website (www.sandyhookers.org). There's a discount if you sign up before May 21st. I'm going down with a bunch of 12-17 year olds from the swim team I coach. Very good training swim with easy course navigation and chip timing.

I just measured it on google maps, going to the club house....and its 1.27mi.....so a good 1/2 IM training swim!!
Kristy Klein Comment by Kristy Klein on May 1, 2009 at 9:31am
Wow - I didn't think that it was that close!!! We swim all the way to the club house - and then back to the beach, so its probably a bit over 1/2 IM distance.

Measuring the course on gmaps...
Island Beach to the white house - .42mi
Make it a loop - To the house - all the way to other end of lake and back to beach - 1.1952mi - I think we can call that Half IM distance. (just like you called it Kristy!)

Open Water Season is here!!!

The "Friday morning lake swim" went off this morning with 8 swimmers!! The water was cool - but definitely comfortable with a wetsuit - John said that he was pretty comfortable in the sleeveless, but was a bit cool when he stopped swimming. We swam out to the white house and back.
I'll definitely be going sleeveless next week!

Hello Everyone!

I have set this page up for everyone to have one place to go to talk about workouts and trainnig issues - without lots of emails flooding everyones inboxes!

Lets get some discussions of swimming/biking/running workouts going! There are also lost of other great resources on this site for all aspects of training and racing. Its largely based out of northern NJ - it was started by a triathlete from the Wykoff YMCA, Mike Llerandi. Thanks for the heads-up on this site Sarah!!

There is also a link to the calendar posted on the team page - where we can post "regular" workouts once we get them going. If there is something you are doing every week and want to lead and have others join you - please let me know and I will post it on the calendar.

Thanks everyone!
