Hi Mike,
I have an A race on the 28th of June (by A I mean cash prize!) and a second A race on the 2 of August (Atlantic Championships). That leaves me about 4 weeks in between the two events. I am following the 39wk program and am curious if I should do the total 4wk taper for my first event or if I should shorten it. Also for the four weeks in between, with that being so short, what do you recommend. They are both oly distance.
Thanks in advance!
Sue
Thanks for posting - first things first, I'm pretty sure that you'll actually have five weeks between your races, which is definitely better than four! ;-)
The way I would approach this if I were you (obviously not knowing anything about your specific body type, level of fitness, etc., and just assuming that you are competitive and therefore fit) is as follows:
- Follow the program as you started, straight through your first A race on June 28.
- Race super fast and win some $$! :-)
- Recover most of the following week, to be sure that you're ready to push again.
- Pick 2-3 of your most favorite, hardest weeks from the previous couple of months, and do those again.
- Taper again, 1-2 weeks, for your second A race on August 2.
- Repeat step two above! :-) (ok, maybe without the $$, but still...)
Sound like a plan?
Long time between now and then, so feel free to post your questions and I'll do what I can to get you useful answers.
That sounds great (especially the $$!). It is a while away, I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to adapt too drastically. What you are describing is what I am thinking, so it should be straightforward!
thanks again, will keep questions rolling if need be
