Welcome!

Welcome to OpenTri.com -- an open community of multi-sport resources. Check out OpenTri 101 for a quick summary of how to use the site effectively...have fun!

Events Added: This newer feature on the site enables members to post and join "events" (in our case mostly races, but could be training sessions, seminars, parties, club meetings, etc.), and then participate in discussions around those events. Check it out when you get a chance -- it's actually a much better calendar-centric way to organize activity...enjoy!

Background of Ultra Distance Triathlons - Going Beyond the Ironman

I have been competing in triathlons for 24 years with a focus over the last 5 years toward Ultra-Distance triathlons. I have competed in several Double Ultra competitions and last year completed the Quintuple Ironman (5 Ironmans continuous). This year’s focus is the DECA Triathlon (10 full triathlons – 1 per day for 10 straight days) in Monterrey Mexico.

History: The first Double Triathlon competition (4.8 miles swimming, 224 miles biking, 52.4 miles running) was held in Huntsville, Alabama in… Continue

Iron man Canada 2010

Hello everyone,
I am a new member. I live in Ajax, Ontario ( 40 min. east of Toronto, Ontario). I recently did my first 1/2 ironman ( Ironman Muskoka). It was fantastic, but before that, I registered to compete in the 2010 IM Canada. I know this is an entirely different monster.

From what I hear, IM CDA has two legendary climbs, plus the competition is intense, since it is one of the last full ironman competitions where you can qualify for Kona.

I would like to know if anyone knows good mount… Continue

Ending the Season on a High Note

Yesterday, I did my 200th triathlon at Westchester. The Westchester Triathlon was also my 1st ever triathlon on August 17, 1986, when it was a sprint distance race from Rye Playland to White Plains High School. In 1986, my training log says that it was a cool and cloudy day. Yesterday...well it was cloudy for sure, and raining steadily all day. Still, the temperature wasn't so bad so I never felt cold. My result was pretty descent; 5th A/G finish in a pretty competitive group (my last year in th… Continue

Augusta Half Ironman

Did my first Half Ironman this past weekend...the inaugural Augusta ESI Ironman 70.3...what a great event...loved every minute of it...but the run did hurt after about 5 miles...but a great course...swim, bike, run courses all excellent. I recommend it for next year to anyone.

MarshMan Sprint

Last Sunday I finished a Sprint. 400yds Swim/ 12.5 Bike / 2 mile run.
I did not trained like I did for the Half Iron- but I have been running, biking, and swimming off and on for the last few months. Nothing hard but enough to do the Sprint. My goal was to be in the top 50 and finish at 1hr5min

After the race I learned a couple of things about the areas of improvement.
In the swim, I never found my rhythm nor a good comfortable pace. It is never the same when you train indoor and then you hit t… Continue
